As the sun sets on your favorite scuba dive site, it magically changes into a wondrous new world beaming with different life and things to see. Night diving allows you to see the underwater world in a new light and re-explore a new site in very different conditions.
Just as above water, there are different animals that come out at night, while others go to sleep. Dive closer to sleeping fish and see the nocturnal crayfish scavenge the area for food and see a whole new array of animals.
Learn how to dive confidently at night, master your navigation and experience the underwater world when it feels completely different, quieter, darker, and seriously exciting. Same ocean. Totally different adventure.

OUR TRAINING PHILOSOPHY: Don’t train until you get it right, train until you can’t get it wrong.

Prerequisites
Before diving, ensure you meet PADI’s basic health and swimming requirements. Be a PADI Open Water diver or equivalent!
The PADI Night Diver Specialty teaches you how to plan and safely conduct scuba dives after sunset. You’ll learn night diving techniques, navigation, communication, equipment use, and how to manage the unique conditions of diving in low light.
Yes. You must hold at least a Open Water to equivalent Scuba Certification and meet the minimum age requirements for the PADI Night Diver Specialty.
You’ll learn how to plan night dives, use dive lights and signalling equipment, navigate in darkness, communicate with your buddy, manage entries and exits, and safely observe nocturnal marine life.
Night diving uses the same fundamental scuba skills as daytime diving, but the reduced visibility creates a different experience. The course provides structured training and supervised dives to help you become comfortable and confident after dark.
In addition to your standard scuba equipment, you’ll need a primary dive light and backup light, along with appropriate signalling equipment. We will advise you on the equipment required for the course.
Yes. Many aquatic animals are more active after sunset, while others emerge only at night. Night diving can reveal different behaviours and marine life that you may not encounter during daytime dives.
The lights out exercise is a controlled training activity designed to help you experience limited visibility underwater and practise maintaining awareness, communication, and buddy contact using established procedures.
The specialty is useful for divers who want to expand their diving experience, become more confident in low light conditions, and explore dive sites from a completely different perspective. It also provides practical skills for planning and managing night dives safely.
Not at all. We all go with our own torches and it opens up a whole new world of interesting critters to see which is very exciting to us.
