Prerequisites
Before diving, ensure you meet PADI’s basic health and swimming requirements. Be a PADI Advanced Open Water diver or equivalent!
Yes. You must already be a certified diver and meet the prerequisites for the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty. Your instructor will confirm that you have the appropriate experience and certification before starting the course.
Depending on the wreck and course conditions, the training can include limited wreck penetration using appropriate safety procedures, including guideline use and controlled navigation. Penetration is always conducted within the limits of your training, equipment, experience, and the specific wreck environment.
Like all forms of scuba diving, wreck diving involves risks. The course is designed to teach you how to identify hazards, plan your dives, manage your equipment, maintain an exit reference, and respond appropriately to potential problems.
Your instructor will explain the equipment required for the course. Depending on the wreck and penetration environment, this may include a suitable exposure suit, redundant lighting, reels or guidelines, cutting equipment, and other specialized wreck diving equipment.
Your certification does not mean that every wreck is suitable for you to enter. Wrecks vary significantly in depth, visibility, structure, current, penetration difficulty, and hazards. You should always dive within your training, experience, equipment, and personal limits.
It is not an entry level scuba course. You need previous diving experience and the required certification before undertaking wreck diving specialty training. The course is designed to build on your existing diving skills.
Safety comes first. If conditions are unsuitable for training, dives may be postponed, moved to another suitable site, or rescheduled. Your instructor will assess the conditions before each dive.
