Course Overview

Start you journey of teaching Diving

Did you enjoy your First Aid Course? Would you like to teach others the skills that you learned during your EFR courses? Earn an income and make the world a safer place by becoming a First Aid Instructor!

During your EFRI Course you will build upon the skills that you have already learned in your EFR courses, and you will learn how to teach these skills to others. Having your EFRI rating is also a step in the right direction if you would like to become an Open Water Scuba Instructor, as this is one of the prerequisites for becoming a Scuba Instructor.

This program also makes provision for those individuals who are already qualified as First Aid Instructors to complete an Instructor Cross Over course that recognizes their training experience and concentrates on the philosophy and structure of the EFR program while building confidence in use of the EFR system of education. Non divers are also welcome!

The Course Structure

Day 1
Theory
The theory section of the EFRI (Emergency First Response Instructor) Course takes approximately 3–4 hours and covers the key knowledge you need before becoming an instructor. During this time, you will review First Aid Primary Care, which focuses on responding to life-threatening emergencies, as well as First Aid Secondary Care, which covers non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. You will also review First Aid Care for Children, learn the theory and techniques involved in teaching the EFRI Course, and go through the general standards and procedures that instructors are expected to follow.
Day 2
Practical Day 1
On Day 1 of the practical EFR Instructor Course, participants focus on developing and demonstrating the practical first aid skills they will later teach to students. They practise Primary Care (CPR and AED), Secondary Care, and Child and Infant Emergency Care. The day also focuses on performing these skills correctly, confidently, and safely while learning how to explain and demonstrate them clearly to others.
Day 3
Practical Day 2
On Day 2, participants focus more on the instructor side of the course. They practise teaching and demonstrating EFR skills, receive feedback on their presentations and techniques, and learn how to manage students during practical sessions. By the end of the day, participants should be more confident in delivering first aid training and following the EFR Instructor standards and procedures. At Into the Blue, the practical sessions are designed to give future instructors hands on experience so they can not only perform emergency first aid skills, but also teach them effectively and confidently to others.

Testimonials

What our divers say

My wife and I had a really great time diving with Into the Blue Cape Town in May. The gear you get is very good, including Scubapro Seawing Nova fins, 7mm wetsuits, gloves, boots, and even an extra vest to wear under the wetsuit. The water was quite cold at around 14°C, and since I normally only dive in tropical waters, I was a bit unsure at first. But with the gear provided, I was absolutely fine for the whole dive. My wife did shiver at the end of dives though. You could stop the dives at any time and one of the dive master would get you to the boat. We had an amazing time in the kelp forest and even saw a pyjama shark. On our first dive at North Paw, we were also lucky enough to see a seal right at the end of the dive, which was a really nice surprise. The whole day was very well organized and the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, professional, and made us feel comfortable. Unfortunately, we had to leave for the Garden Route the next day, otherwise we would definitely have booked another dive with them. Overall, it was a really great experience, and next time I am in Cape Town, I will for sure dive with Into the Blue again. Highly recommended.

Into the Blue took our family group of 10 out snorkelling and scuba diving. They were great in accommodating both the snorkellers and divers needs at the same time and keeping everyone happy. They went out of there way to make it such a special day, taking us to different sites and providing snacks and hot drinks after the dive /snorkel. Thank you so much ‘Into the Blue’! What a fantastic day!

Great experience diving today - double tank dives in the kelp was an incredible experience...especially with the seals! It was cold...so be prepared! But the kit was great quality, the safety briefings were perfect and the diving with James as our dive guide was brilliant. Thank you to the full team...if you are in Cape Town...dive it!
